In an effort to increase children’s reading interest and literacy in Kampung Nelayan, RT 18, Juata Permai Village, North Tarakan District, Tarakan City, North Kalimantan Province, PT Phoenix Resources International (PRI) launched the Pojok Baca dan Literasi Kampung Bengawan (Berkawan) on June 23, 2025.

During the launch, PT PRI donated hundreds of educational toys and books in collaboration with TK Cahaya Bengawan, which became the main location for the Berkawan Reading Corner activities.

The Berkawan Reading Corner is a literacy initiative aimed at children, providing a small library and educational toys to encourage reading and learning.

Beyond charitable aid, the program will also feature monthly Phoenix Goes To Community activities involving PRI employees. These events will focus on capacity-building through educational games and activities for children.

“The Phoenix Goes To Community program is designed for children and will include games and educational activities,” said PRI’s Community Development Team, Ari Ristanti.
